Speech & Language Therapy

Being a mother of three, as well as a speech therapist I have an excellent understanding of child development.  I understand how important communication is and the worries that arise when a your child is not making the progress that is expected.

I am passionate about early intervention.  I believe that parents and family members play a really important role in a child’s speech and language development. I can share and implement evidence-based strategies to empower parents to provide the rich language input that little ones need to thrive.

I’m dedicated to making therapy sessions enjoyable and engaging for children. My approach is designed to make therapy fun, helping children stay motivated. I enjoy working with children with speech sound disorders.  I have a wide range of games and activities to make working on speech sounds enjoyable.

As a qualified Makaton tutor, I love to incorporate Makaton signs into my speech therapy sessions where appropriate.  I am also very interested in Augmentative and Alternative communication (AAC).  I worked for a time within a specialist AAC service as part of my role in the NHS and gained a wealth of knowledge within the field.  I was able to put this to good use in my NHS role in special schools, where I worked with a large number of children who used AAC as their primary means of communication.  I believe that just because a child does not talk, does not mean that they cannot communicate very effectively by alternative means.
